History in EYFS

In the EYFS, children begin to explore history through the area of Understanding the World. They develop an early sense of time by learning about their own life cycle—recognising that they were once babies, are now children, and will grow into adults. They start to notice differences between themselves, their parents, and their grandparents, and begin to understand the idea of ‘then’ and ‘now’. Through topics such as dinosaurs, farming, and family, children compare past and present, explore special people in their lives, and learn about events like Remembrance Day,  helping them build the foundations of historical understanding.

Working together to explore our families and the different stages of life as we grow using our family books.
