Eco-Warriors

Our Eco Warriors are Pupils who take a lead in helping our schools care for the environment and make sustainable choices part of everyday life. They work alongside staff to encourage the whole school community to think about how small actions can make a big difference.

Our Eco Warriors:
  • Promote environmental awareness by sharing messages about caring for our planet in assemblies, classrooms and around the school
  • Support recycling and waste reduction, helping pupils understand what can be recycled and why reducing waste matters
  • Encourage energy‑saving habits, such as switching off lights and equipment when not in use
  • Care for the school environment, including outdoor areas, gardens and wildlife spaces
  • Gather pupil voice, representing the views and ideas of their classmates on sustainability
  • Help plan and support eco‑events, such as environmental days, litter picks, or themed learning activities

Through these roles, Eco Warriors act as positive role models and help embed environmental responsibility across the federation.

Why It Matters
🌍 It empowers pupils

Eco Warriors learn that their voices matter and that they can influence change. This builds confidence, leadership skills and a strong sense of responsibility.

🌱 It supports sustainability

By promoting recycling, reducing waste and saving energy, pupils help the school reduce its environmental impact and develop habits that last beyond the classroom.

📚 It enhances learning

Eco work links strongly to the wider curriculum, particularly science, geography, citizenship and PSHE, helping pupils understand real‑world issues in a meaningful way.

🤝 It builds a shared culture

When pupils lead environmental initiatives, everyone is more likely to get involved. This creates a positive, whole‑school approach to caring for our school and our planet.

🌟 It prepares pupils for the future

Understanding environmental issues helps pupils become informed, thoughtful citizens who are ready to play their part in a changing world.

The newest batch of Eco Warriors have been assembled and have begun their 2025-2026 mission to protect the planet by reducing, recycling and reusing.

One of our biggest and most successful recycling schemes has been the fantastic idea of one of our Junior Eco Warriors - Teddy! For the third year in a row, Teddy has asked the Bursledon community to donate their empty chocolate and sweet containers so that he can recycle them. The Eco warriors got involved and created a power point to highlight the importance of recycling the sweet tubs, then challenged the whole school to collect as many sweet tubs as they could. They also asked the children to create posters to advertise our mission to our parents and the local community. We were blown away by the number of containers that we collected as a school and are proud of the fact that they will now be recycled as opposed to going to landfill. Well done Eco warriors!

We are currently collecting old/pre loved Christmas jumpers to recycle and give them a new life. Instead of throwing them away, families can donate jumpers they no longer need. This helps reduce waste and supports our mission to care for the planet. Remember - we now offer a clothes recycling bank in our school grounds, which not only helps to reduce clothing going into landfill but also helps to generate money for the school.

In the Infants, our latest eco‑mission is to make recycling even better in our school. We are encouraging everyone to recycle food waste properly and to help stop littering. We are working together on a fun new project to help children and staff remember which items belong in each bin, as well as educating them about what happens to our food waste!
